Our Story
Kokonut is more than just a fashion brand—it's a movement born out of lived experience, community love, and a fierce desire to redefine plus-size fashion in India.
We began in late 2023 with a simple, humble dream: to resell brand surpluses that catered to plus-size women. It wasn’t some business strategy—it was personal. One of our founders, Nitika, has always navigated the challenges of being a plus-size woman in a world where fashion often leaves us out. From ill-fitting clothes to limited styles and the constant disappointment of "one-size-only" options, we’ve felt it all. That’s why Kokonut was born—for plus-size women, by plus-size women.
But soon, we realised reselling wasn’t enough. The demand was overwhelming, but the options? Slim. We wanted more than just leftover fashion—we wanted fashion that celebrated curves, comfort, and confidence. In February 2024, we took a bold step and launched our first original design—100 Rib Knit Tops. We didn’t know what to expect. But within two hours, 80% were sold out. By the end of the day, they were gone. That was our turning point—Kokonut wasn’t just a store anymore, it was a brand with a purpose.
Of course, the journey wasn’t always pretty. We’ve made mistakes. A manufacturer once ruined an entire batch of 150 T-shirts—it hurt. But what pulled us through was the unstoppable support of our community and our deep belief that every woman deserves to feel beautiful in her body.
Today, Kokonut is a plus-size exclusive, tech-driven fashion startup with a thriving community of over 16,000 women (and growing!) on Instagram, 80% of whom identify as plus-size. We started as @thecurvy.kokonut and have now become a trusted name in the Indian plus-size fashion space.
